The other day I was driving across the South Bridge in Harrisburg in traffic that was fairly thick. When I was a child I can remember hearing my dad say that crossing the South Bridge during rush hour was taking your own life in your hands. In our modern age, rush hour seems to last all day long and well into the evening.
But today it was moving at a fair 25 mph. I was watching traffic, but thinking about the incredible day we had been having so far. We found a used desk at a charity shop that was little enough to fit into the little nook in what has become my "craft" room at the house. We also stopped by a pharmacy that was out of business and had used shelves advertised. To my surprise we got four amazing shelves, a single glass shelf and assorted new items such as pencils, Scotch tape and craft scissors all for $3.06. The man only wanted two large cups of black coffee for payment! We felt like we had won the used furniture lottery.
Morton and I were both quiet, watching the traffic tighten up and go down to just a crawl. He always lets me drive because when we are out and about, I know the area and short cuts a bit better, having grown up here.
There was a car merging on from 13th Street, or trying to, and finally a nice driver in front of us backed off the person in front of him and left the silver car (just like ours!) in. The driver was a few cars in front of us, but I smiled as I read his personalized license plate. It simply stated, "Enjoy It" and at almost the same time, Morton said, "Look at that!" He still gets a kick out of our abundance of cheap and affordable personalized "number plates" since growing up in Britain, it was common for a plate to be sold for thousands of pounds if it had a unique message on it.
We both agreed it summed up the way we should all live our lives, the moments and seconds that make up our day. Enjoy it.
Right there as traffic was grinding to a halt, we were both smiling like fools at this motorists message. It made our day and I hope that the feeling has been passed along to you. It is simple...Enjoy It!
