I've just finished posting the link to your journal; I hope it helps you. I quite enjoyed reading your posts, and I hope others will, too.
I was looking for some great blogs and I found yours.
Your layout is great, posts are easy to read... All around, it's a great journal.
There you sit, you've had your dinner, you aren't really hungry, yet you want something to eat. Raise your hand if you know this feeling. My husband calls it "eating for pure greed" but still does it himself.
Last night after a day of doing great things (eating healthy and moving!) this feeling hit me. I wanted to make something to munch through the movie my husband had on while I was working at my laptop. Even though I knew I should turn the computer off and actually spend a bit of time with hubby, there are so many things happening that I just couldn't seem to flip that switch.
Then I remembered when we were at the grocery store I had gotten two lovely pomegranates. I ALMOST asked Morton to go to the kitchen and bring us one to split, then I remembered the OLD me who had eaten her way into having to ask Morton to pull me out of chairs. He would have gotten up and fetched the fruit, that is why he is slim and I'm still kicking these last 100 pounds off of my body.
Getting up I also made another move that was a good one. I switched off the computer. All the work would still be there in the morning.
Bringing back two bowls, each containing a half of the healthy and delicious fruit, I gave Morton his with a fork to poke and prod at. When you eat a pomegranate you need to take your time and really try to pull the little buds out without bursting them. But just in case they do burst, that is why I always serve it in a bowl. You can tip it over when you are finished and drink the juice, fresh squeezed even it if was accidental.
It took me almost 20 minutes to pick my way through this treat. Morton woofed his down, I think in less than three minutes, though he tends to eat all the bitter pulp inside. What can I say, he also eats the cores of apples, the peels of oranges, lemons and grapefruit and if I question why he eats the rinds of things he simply says, "What do you think they make marmalade out of?"
The movie was funny even though I had seen it before at the theater with my daughter and it was nice to have a bit of a normal evening. Morton never noticed these small triumphs that I had made with getting my own healthy snack and being a part of his evening, or maybe he did and was just too shocked to say anything. See, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks if you keep trying.
